Building

Officebot has lived through three eras of AI. So have I.

Ventures
era 1RegexIt started as pattern-matching commands. It worked — as long as people typed exactly what it expected.
era 2NLPIntent and entity models let people speak naturally. Better, but every new request type meant new training data.
era 3AgenticToday an agent on the Vercel AI SDK and AWS Bedrock plans the steps and calls the tools itself — one sentence can book a whole week.

Officebot — An AI teammate that runs a team’s time off and shifts from inside Slack. Used by hundreds of people across teams.

Beliefs

What I believe about building — and the people who build.

  1. 01

    Live beyond your title

Attach yourself to the role, not the rank. Not “I’m a CEO” — “I’m a builder.” Titles change; what you make is what stays.

  2. 02

    Think in systems, not solutions

A fix that ignores the system around it is next quarter’s incident.

  3. 03

    AI-first doesn’t mean AI-must

Reach for AI where it earns its place — not because the roadmap needs the word.

  4. 04

    Don’t make yourself indispensable

Make the team capable instead. Being the bottleneck isn’t job security.

  5. 05

    Protect the coaching culture

Automation can take the tasks. It shouldn’t take the mentoring.

In production

Twenty years of software that had to stay up.

The longer story

Vitu · 2025 — now

Document classification, automated end to end

The whole pipeline runs without hand-offs: CNN models trained on SageMaker, inference served across regions on ECS and SageMaker. It classifies hundreds of thousands of documents a day and is sized to absorb ten times that.

LessonScale is a design decision you make on day one, not a fire you fight later.

Vitu · 2025 — now

Making AI a safe tool for a whole company

An enterprise AI gateway with per-person budgets, usage tracking, and guardrails, so engineers and product managers can use Claude Code and Codex freely, within clear limits. Alongside it, a spec-driven way of building — specs generated from Jira, kept in sync with Confluence — now used across production projects.

LessonAdoption follows trust. Governance is what makes people comfortable moving fast.

One rules engine for fifty states

Vehicle titling and registration runs on rules that differ by state and change constantly. Updating them used to be a weeks-long release. I designed an engine where they’re configured live — and where the UI renders itself from the rules — so changes ship in minutes and fewer transactions get stuck half-done.

LessonThe best systems let the business change without asking engineering.
